“As we get ready to highlight the accomplishments and hard work of Somerset County’s top spellers at our Bee Spectacular on March 4, what better way to gear up for our County Spelling Bee than to see a group of talented actors perform scenes from the award winning play ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’?” said Marcela Dunham, adult programming coordinator at SCLSNJ’s Warren Township Library branch, and SCLSNJ’s Bee Spectacular co-coordinator.
The cast of Playhouse 22's production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" will be performing selections from the show, with music and lyrics by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, directed by Mark Kalet, music direction by Chris Curcio and choreography by Jaime Moritz.
The cast includes Katy Hajzer as Olive, Julie Stein as Logainne, Jenny Weiner as Rona, Maria Aromando as Marcy, Anthony Competello as Barfee, Stephen Belfatti as Mitch, Brett Jones as Chip, Jack Tomy as Leaf, Patrick Andrae as Panch.
"I've always loved this show,” said Mark Kalet, the show’s director. “It's a perfect example of a musical that uses songs to give the audience an emotional connection into the inner thoughts of its characters. It goes from happy to sad to silly at the drop of a hat, just like 12-year-olds themselves."
