Get Ready Watchung: Mt. Carmel Fair Set For July 12-15

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Mt. Carmel fair starts Wednesday and excitement is brewing for what is a main highlight and summertime tradition in Berkeley Heights. The four night carnival kicks of on Wednesday, July 12 and runs through Saturday, July 15. Local residents and guests can expect nothing short of a good time at the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

This long standing tradition is in its 108th year run by the Mount Carmel Society who put a ton of work and coordination to bring the fair to Berkeley Heights. Kids of all ages will enjoy a wide variety of amusement rides and games while the over 21 crowd can visit the beer and wine garden. Festival goers can choose from a multitude of food vendors that will include the crowd favorite zeppoles, fried oreos, Italian ice, popcorn, funnel cakes and much more. In addition to rides, games, and food, festival goers can enjoy live music from local bands.

On Friday night, The "Mini" Family Friendly Fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m. There will be no parking on the fairgrounds, July 14 for safety reasons and in order to allow more room for viewing the show.

The  Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Garden State Fireworks and the Santore family will be held on Saturday, July 15 starting at 11 p.m. It has been said this fireworks display is “phenomenal,” urging residents to come out to the spectacular event.

Adding to the longstanding tradition, members of the Mt. Carmel Society will walk through the streets of Berkeley Heights on Saturday July 15 in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. At 8 a.m., members will meet at Little Flower Church to march on a century-long route carrying a statue in her honor.

The procession will be followed by a mass for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at 11 a.m.. After the mass, a picnic will be held in Peppertown Park for all residents of the Berkeley Heights community.

Local residents should be advised that Springfield Avenue will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday from Plainfield Avenue into Long Hill Township.

The Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is made possible by many generous sponsors, including Garden State Fireworks, Investors Bank, Chimney Rock Inn and the hard work of the Mount Carmel Society members.

Information regarding Parking and Transportation on July 15:

  • All parking is off-site on July 15th.

  • Handicap parking will be available at Columbia Middle School located at 345 Plainfield Avenue, please try to arrive before 6 p.m.

  • Springfield Avenue will close to all traffic at 6 p.m.…Come early!!!!
  • Shuttle transportation will be available from Columbia Middle School on Plainfield Avenue to the front gate of the fair starting at 6 p.m. and will end at 10:30 p.m.

  • THERE WILL BE RETURN SHUTTLE SERVICE AVAILABLE BUT NOT UNTIL AFTER THE EVENT IS OVER AND ALL PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC IS CLEAR FROM THE ROADS.
