NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Giving Nest of North Plainfield will hold its annual School Wide Art Gallery on April 7 and April 9. The theme of this year’s showcase is ‘Fun With Literature' and the entire school – all 10 classrooms, the hallways and the meeting room – will be decorated with artwork created by students ages 2 1/2 to 6-years old.

In preparing for the art gallery, teachers read stories by such children’s authors as Tomie dePaola, Mo Willems, Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert, Emily Gravet and moret. Students then created individual artwork related to the stories they read. Projects this year will include artwork based on such books as Knuffle Bunny, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Goodnight Moon, The Grouchy Ladybug and The Rainbow Fish, among others. Additionally, each class made a storybook character and a class canvas; the canvas will be available through a silent auction.

“’Fun With Literature’” is one of my favorite themes because it focuses on stories for children,” said Mary Sue Frank, co-founder and co-owner of the Giving Nest. “If we can turn children on to reading by presenting them with stories that open their imagination and creativity then we have plugged into their natural curiosity and love of learning and reading!”

About the Giving Nest

The Giving Nest Preschool & Kindergarten in North Plainfield opened its doors in September 1990 with the goal of providing the community with a different approach to early childhood education. The goal of its co-founders/co-owners Mary Sue Frank and Debbie Hannon was to offer a safe, nurturing and academically stimulating environment where preschoolers could learn, create, socialize and play while also learning the joy of being kind and giving to others.

Back then, just 56 students between the ages of 2 1/2 and 4 years were enrolled in the North Plainfield school’s four, half-day programs. Now, 25 years later, the Clinton Avenue school averages around 190 students a year and offers a combination of 18 full- and half-day preschool programs, including kindergarten. Additionally, there are Giving Nest locations throughout Somerset County, including North Plainfield, Bridgewater, Martinsville, Warren and Watchung.

Each of the Giving Nest locations features small classes sizes, which allows for one-on-one and individualized attention, and follow the same age-appropriate curriculum. The school’s curriculum focuses on social, reading readiness, math/science readiness, fine motor, gross motor, and language skills. Additionally, daily activities focus on manners, sharing, and helping those less fortunate with the theme of being helpful, kind and good ‘bucket fillers’ resonating in all the Giving Nest schools.

Giving Nest Preschools in Bridgewater, Martinsville, North Plainfield and Watchung offer a variety of half- and full-day Monday through Friday, Thursday/Thursday and Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes for children 2 1/2 to 5-years along will early morning and late afternoon extended care services on as needed basis or permanent basis. The Warren school offers full- and half-day programs for children 18- to 30-months; both Martinsville and North Plainfield offer full-day kindergarten; and North Plainfield, Martinsville and Watchung offer various age-appropriate afternoon enrichment classes. Additionally, age-appropriate, themed summer camps are also offered at Warren and Watchung each year.
