SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ -  On Friday, March 4, 2016 at 7 pm, Somerset County Library System of New Jersey will host SCLSNJ Bee Spectacular, a county-wide Scripps Spelling Bee for children grades 3-8, at the Montgomery High School auditorium, located at 1016 County Road 601 in Skillman. The winner of SCLSNJ Bee Spectacular will be eligible to attend the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. at the library system’s expense. Additional prizes will be awarded.

“We're delighted to bring the Scripps Bee to Somerset County,” said Brian Auger, county library administrator for SCLSNJ. “It's an exciting and fun way to celebrate our community's commitment to education and literacy.”

"Your students may already know how to spell the word 'champion' but there are a ton of other reasons why your students should participate in the SCLSNJ Scripps Spelling Bee,” said Cathy DeBerry, adult services librarian at SCLSNJ’s Warren Township Library branch and SCLSNJ Bee Spectacular co-coordinator. “First and foremost -- according to Jeffrey Blitz, who directed the 2002 documentary ‘Spellbound’ -- many spelling bee finalists go on to very successful careers in science and medicine."

“SCLSNJ is buzzing with excitement as we get ready to host the county's first Spelling Bee,” said Marcela Dunham, adult programming coordinator at SCLSNJ’s Warren Township Library branch and SCLSNJ Bee Spectacular co-coordinator. “This is an excellent opportunity to fulfill our goal to partner with the community and highlight the talent and hard work of students and educators in our area.  Wouldn't it be fabulous if our top speller would end up being the winner of the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee? After all, ‘s’ is the first letter in Somerset...and success!”
