WARREN, NJ - Jeannie Parnes Wechsler, who escaped from the Nazis with her family, will  speak on her experiences on May 24,  at 7 pm in the South Auditorium at Watchung Hills Regional High School, Warren, NJ.  Co-sponsored by Chai Center for Jewish Life and the Watchung Hills Regional History Department, the program is free and open to the public.

Born on the Ukraine border in Skalat, Poland, in 1938 and the Parnes family lived there until 1941, when Russian soldiers warned them and about 200 others that the Germans were on their way. Wechsler will retell the story of how her family left the town just one day before the Nazis arrived, and the numerous hardships they endured over the next 5 years.

The family’s story has also been told in a book, One Step Ahead: A Mother of Seven Escaping Hitler’s Claws, by Avraham Azrieli, and in a play, By Wheel and by Wing, which was written by high school students and staged by Act 3 Productions of Sandy Springs, Ga.  Following the program, Wechsler will sell and sign copies of the book at a dessert reception.

Watchung Hills Regional High School is located at 108 Stirling Road, Warren, NJ.  For more information, please call 908-864-7788.
