WARREN, NJ – Hunterdon Central’s Blake Leeds scampered 72 yards in the third quarter to snap a 14-14 tie and power the Hunterdon Central Red Devils to a 35-14 win over Watchung Hills Regional High School. Leeds proved to be too much for the Watchung Hills’ Warriors defense shredding Watchung Hills for 280 yards and two touchdowns. The victory was the Red Devils’ first of the season and improves their record to 1-3, while Watchung Hills drops to 1-3.
Hunterdon Central Quarterback Cristian Shaw threw for two scores battling both the Warriors defense and driving winds and rain. Watchung Hills quarterback Mark Ball had two touchdowns of his own one to Frank Rica and the other to Nick Ugarte. Despite less than ideal passing conditions, Rica led all receivers with 10 receptions and 133 yards receiving.
The rain and strong second half by Hunterdon Central could not douse the enthusiasm of the Warriors’ fans on “Pink Out” night for Breast Cancer Awareness. Watchung Hills Regional plays away next Friday at Franklin.
