WARREN, NJ – Hunterdon Central Senior Bob Cole made the most of his first ever varsity start throwing a complete game 5-0 shutout over Watchung Hills. Cole scattered five hits and allowed just one walk in his seven innings of work. “I had my curveball working today, and it just felt great being out there,” said Cole. “Coach Raymond had a great plan going into today, and everything just worked out the way we wanted.”
Cole was right. Things worked out the way they wanted, but it was by no accident. The Hunterdon Central senior lefty was ahead on nearly every count in the game, and his defense was almost perfect.
“Cole really pitched well for us today, said Hunterdon Central Coach Mike Raymond. “He threw a lot of strikes, he stayed ahead in the count, and he made them put the ball in play.”
Hunterdon Central scored two runs in the 2nd inning, two in the 3rd inning and tacked on their final run in the 5th on an RBI single by Henry Hawkins.
“If you have good pitching, good defense, and timely hitting you’re going to win a lot of baseball games, and we were able to do that today," said Coach Raymond.
