RARITAN TWP., NJ - Saturday’s attacks on a Saudi Arabia oil processing plant – which Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has blamed on Iran – is something that Raritan Township Committeeman Lou Reiner isn’t accepting quietly.
Reiner, who has long been an unapologetic conservative, has taken to Facebook in reaction to the attacks.
Among the memes shared by Reiner includes one that states, “Some cancers must be treated with radiation. Islam is one of them.” The meme’s image is one of a mushroom cloud explosion.
The post didn’t sit well with one TAPinto reader, who called the post an example of hate speech.
“I believe Islam is an evil religion, it’s a violent religion,” Reiner said in an interview this morning. “The religion is a cancer … the Islamic position is in fact a cancer.”
Reiner said his claim does “not apply to all Muslims … it applies to the Koran.” He added that “there are good and decent people in all religions but the religion itself is absolutely evil.” None of his thousands of Facebook friends objected to the post, he said.
Most of Reiner’s friends are fellow Republicans and, “It won’t upset Republicans,” he said.
Reiner said he stands behind President Trump to the end and that he expects an attack on Iran this week. “This president will do the right thing to secure our interests and that of our allies,” Reiner said.
Reiner called the image of the atomic blast in his post “a figure of speech. I do not believe, nor do I support the use of nuclear weapons against Islamic countries … but the religion is a cancer and has to be dealt with accordingly.” Nuclear weapons should only be used in response to a first-strike attack, he said.
“The apologists and sleeping beauties need to recognize it is Iran and Islam’s stated purpose to wipe the state of Israel and the United States off the map,” Reiner said. “That’s common knowledge.”
That mission explains one of the main reasons for the Iran’s nuclear program, he added. “They’re not developing nuclear weapons for defensive purposes,” Reiner said. “It’s as serious as a heart attack.”
Reiner doesn’t fear fallout from his remarks. “I’m an infidel,” he said. “And I’m proud of it.”
