North Plainfield Jr. Canucks (NPJC) recently began its 2014 summer Football Organized Team Activities (OTAs) with a Cheer team, two Flag (K-2nd grade) teams, a Pee Wee (3rd & 4th grade) team, a JV (5th & 6th grade) team, and a Varsity (7th & 8th grade) team.
Kids were extremely excited about going through basic conditioning football drills that allowed them to run, jump, pass, catch, and have fun with newly formed teammates and coaches. As parents watched their kids from the sidelines, kids showed everyone they were eager to learn the fundamentals of football in preparation of the upcoming football season. “Positive Energy” was NPJC’s mantra as kids gave effort to enhancing unknown skills and awakening muscles that aren’t normally used during summer break.
“Kids are having a ball out here” said one parent.
The kids also got a special surprise visit and received instructional football coaching from the New Jersey Wolves, a Semi-Professional Football Team.
“It’s what my son needs” said another parent.
“This type of preparation is key to their development as kids… whether it’s awareness on the field or awareness in the classroom” said Coach Vick.
This year’s NPJC teams will play on Saturday mornings beginning September 6th Opening Day through the end of October or beginning of November if a playoff berth is achieved. Two Home games each are scheduled in September and October respectively. Please visit npjrcanucks.org for teams scheduled game times and location.
