NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – A free parent workshop entitled ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten?’ will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Giving Nest Preschool & Kindergarten in North Plainfield.
Presented by Mary Sue Frank, co-founder of the Giving Nest and curriculum advisor with 25 years of experience with children and families, ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten?’ is geared toward a parent who is sending their first child to kindergarten; a parent who has doubts about their child being ready for kindergarten; a parent who has a child who has just makes the cut-off date for kindergarten, a parent who wants to learn about education in the 21st century (Core Curriculum, No Child Left Behind, etc.); and/or a parent whose child's preschool teacher has expressed a concern with regards to kindergarten readiness.
“This workshop gives parents information and expectations of kindergarten programs in todays day and age,” said Frank. “It enables parents to educate themselves and choose what is best for their child.”
At the ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten?’ workshop, Frank will discuss the significant changes in education over the years; expectations of kindergarten programs in the surrounding communities (Bridgewater, Dunellen, Green Brook, Middlesex, North Plainfield, South Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Warren and Watchung); cut-off dates for kindergarten (locally and nationally); key Indicators of kindergarten readiness; what kindergarten teachers think the most important readiness skills are; the Core Curriculum; and more.
“This workshop focuses on educating parents on kindergarten expectations and understanding that there are more things to consider if their child is ready for kindergarten beside a birthdate,” said Frank, adding, “Often parents think that if a child is academically ready for kindergarten then they should go. At my workshop they will learn that academic readiness is not the most important factor in a child's school success."
