WARREN, NJ - Despite the rain, residents lined the parade route to honor those who have fought and died for our nation at the annual Warren Township Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Following the parade, a wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Municipal Complex to honor all veterans who have given their lives in defense of our nation.  Due to the rain, it was held in the courtroom.

Col. Daniel Mahon, USA (Ret.), Warren Township Mayor, Carolann Garafola and Congressman Leonard Lance addressed the packed courtroom. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was  George Grimler, Commander of the American Legion.

Memorial Day is a time for many to reflect on the sacrifices and services of the American soldiers and veterans and the U.S. military men and women and express appreciation, support and prayers.

The words 'United We Stand' and 'God Bless America' still hold the power to stir hearts.

Two Watchung Hills students, Kyra Anthony and Anchal Dhir, sang 'God Bless America'

Mayor Garafola and Congressman Leonard Lance spoke at the ceremony.

After the parade and wreath-laying ceremony, the Warren Township Committee hosted a Grand Opening and Open House at the new Warren Township Town Hall.  The event included a formal ribbon-cutting by the Township Committee and honored guests, including Congressman Leonard Lance. Special gifts were presented to those who toured the facility.

In closing the ceremony, TAPS was played as the flags were raised.

Freedom isn't free. “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” – President Harry S. Truman
