NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Florence A. Mannion (Lentz) of North Plainfield, N.J., passed away on April 6, 2015. She was 94. Family and friends are invited to the memorial service at the Vermeule Mansion, 614 Greenbrook Rd., North Plainfield, on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 10 a.m.
Florence Mannion, a 25-year member of the Somerset County Federation of Republican Women, was a "trailblazer" before the term was coined. Born in 1920 while Woodrow Wilson was in the White House, Florence lived through the Great Depression, an experience that taught her lessons that have shaped her life.
Florence worked throughout her life and owned and operated several businesses in the tri-state area. Throughout the decades, Florence served on numerous committees in Somerset County and in her town of North Plainfield. Specifically, Florence served as the chairman of North Plainfield Economic Development Committee, chairman of the Library Advisory Board in North Plainfield, and a member and a treasurer for the North Plainfield Seniors Club.
Florence said, “The secret to life is to never live in the past." Her mantra kept her young at heart and constantly giving back to the Republican Party and her community.
Florence is survived by one son, Robert Mannion (Crystal); six grandchildren, Vincent Mannion (Yola), Tara Lacatena (Frank), Tami Kaleta (Nate), Julia Mannion, Luke Mannion and Charles Mannion; nine great-grandchildren, Kiley, Casey, Connor, Nathan, Noah, Noella, Blake, Sofia, John; one nephew, Frederick Menzel (Stella); one niece, Barbara Anderson (Robert); one great- nephew, Michael Menzel (Kelly); one great-niece, Jennifer Cannon (Scott;) and five great grand-nieces and -nephews, Taylor, Jillian, Chloe, Kiley and Brian. Her sister, Jane predeceased Florence in 2012.
