NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The North Plainfield Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance from Plainfield and Watchung, responded to a house fire Thursday evening.

At around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1, fire personnel were called to the scene of a single family, one and a half story home in the 200 block section of Greenbrook Road between Maple Avenue and Stahls Way. First responding units found a chimney fire that was burning through the roof and approximately 23 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze

“On duty crews stretched two hose lines inside the home to quickly contain and extinguish the fire,” said Chief William Eaton, adding that the home was currently undergoing renovations and no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, as of press time it is not deemed suspicious. “Right now, it appears to have been an accidental fire that spread from the chimney to the attic,” added Eaton.
