NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The cloudy and overcast sky couldn’t put a damper on North Plainfield’s youngest anglers as approximately 75 people showed up for North Plainfield’s 45th annual Fishing Derby. The day’s event was particularly special as North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano cut the ribbon opening Green Acres Park. The park and basketball courts were refurbished late last summer, but the opening day ceremony took place this past Saturday.

“I want to thank everyone that came out here this morning for the fishing derby and to celebrate the opening to our new basketball courts,” said Mayor Giordano. “This is just the latest in a number of improvements we have made here at Green Acres Park. Take time out and enjoy the wonderful day and the park’s facilities.”

Isiah Casey caught the first keeper of the day. “I was really excited, and the fish was big,” said little Isiah. Casey was right. The fish was big the first catch of the day was a 15 inch rainbow trout.
