LAMBERTVILLE, NJ - It was not exactly easy, but North Plainfield boys’ soccer team got the job done in an overtime thriller against the South Hunterdon Eagles Wednesday afternoon.

The Canucks (8-1) entered the game coming off two straight shutouts scoring nine goals total in those two games. Wednesday afternoon’s win against a struggling Eagles’ team (1-9) did not come as easy.

After a miscue, the Eagles scored off an own goal early in the first half. After strong play from their defense, they took a 1-0 lead into the half and held on to that lead until midway through the second half.

Senior Ronaldo Garcia scored off an assist from senior Kenny Navas to tie the game 1-1. The two teams would take the battle into overtime.  It was Navas setting up Garcia this time for the game-winning goal six minutes into overtime.

Despite the loss, the Eagles played one of their best games of the season and goalie Cameron Paventi had a solid game in goal. He saw 12 shots in total and made eight saves.

Canucks’ goalies Edgar Castaneda and Danny Gonzalez combined for four saves off five shots from the Eagles.

The Canucks will look to make it four in a row when they host a tough Immaculata team on Saturday.
