Below is a candidate survey filled out by Council Vice President Lawrence LaRonde, candidate for the North Plainfield Borough Council in 2014. We encourage North Plainfield residents to read all candidate surveys to help make their decisions on Election Day.
While TAP into North Plainfield will not be making endorsements in local elections, we do encourage voters to send in letters to the editor regarding their reasons for supporting -- or not supporting -- candidates for office.
Lawrence La Ronde

Years in North Plainfield:
Council Vice President Larry La Ronde believes in bringing positive change through active engagement with the residents of the borough. As a leader on the Mayor’s Special Events Committee, Larry organizes the annual Street Fair, and Santa Comes to Town. He has volunteered for NPHS Project Graduation, Clean Community Day, and is well known as the Chief Chef at various borough events.
In addition, Larry has served as liaison to the Shade Tree Advisory Board, Rent Stabilization Board, Library Advisory Committee, Community Compliance and Resource Committee, Special Events and Municipal Alliance.
Larry and his wife have resided in North Plainfield for eleven years. He works in a management position for a printing company. He served three years in the United States Navy, earning a Specialist Award and Letter of Appreciation. Larry initiated an annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Library Memorial to honor our veterans.
I am married and have two grown children.

North Plainfield Borough Council
What volunteer positions have you held?:
Member of the North Plainfield Lions Club, supporting various events sponsored by the club.
Vice President of the North Plainfield Youth Sports Association.
Past President of North Plainfield Democratic Club.
Volunteer with North Plainfield Park and Recreation Commission as a Site Supervisor for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade soccer program and 5th and 6th grade basketball program. Also, I volunteer as coordinator of our Adult recreation programs in the borough including co-ed softball, volleyball, basketball and archery.
Project Graduation chaperone
Member of the Mayor's Special Event Committee as Chair Person of the annual Street Fair and Santa Comes to Town, along with assisting with the 4th of July Parade and Fireworks.
What is the most important issue facing North Plainfield?:
Quality of life for our residents. Making sure we keep our tax revenues in tack, that all our ordinances are up to date and being enforced across the board.
What other issues would you address?:
Down Town revitalization, making it welcoming to all our borough residents.
Property maintenance, this improves the values of our homes and the pride in our borough.
Bringing in more businesses to the Route 22 corridor to increase our tax revenue.
What makes you proud of North Plainfield?:
The quaintness of our town
The pride that most residents have in our community
The people I have an opportunity to work with throughout borough
How will you improve North Plainfield's future?:
Encourage more viable business to do business along Route 22 corridor and downtown district
What is your five year plan as a member of the North Plainfield Borough Council?:
Improving communication with our residents on the goals of the borough along with helping to stabilize our taxes
What else would you like the voters in North Plainfield to know?:
The voters should know that I am a resident just as they are and really care about this town. I look to improve the quality of life not just for myself, but everyone in the borough. I will always do what I feel is best for them.
