NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – A free parent workshop entitled ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten?’ will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Giving Nest Preschool & Kindergarten in North Plainfield.

Presented by Mary Sue Frank, co-founder of the Giving Nest and director with over 35 years of experience with children and families. The workshop is geared toward parents with their first children going into kindergarten; parents of children with summer or fall birthdays whose teacher feels an extra year of preschool would be beneficial; and parents with a child currently enrolled in the Giving Nest’s Duckling Class with a summer or early fall birthday who are unsure which class is the best option for September 2017.

“The ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten?’ workshop will provide parents with information on what to expect when it comes to kindergarten programs in todays day and age,” said Frank. “Each child is different and our goal is to educate parents so that they can ultimately make the best decisions for their child.”

The workshop will touch upon the significant changes in education over the years; expectations of kindergarten programs in the surrounding communities (Bridgewater, Dunellen, Green Brook, Middlesex, North Plainfield, South Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Warren and Watchung); cut-off dates for kindergarten; key indicators of kindergarten readiness; and more.

“This workshop focuses on educating parents on kindergarten expectations and understanding that there are more things to consider if their child is ready for kindergarten beside a birthdate,” said Frank, adding, “Often parents think that if a child is academically ready for kindergarten then they should go. At my workshop they will learn that academic readiness is not the most important factor in a child's school success."

The ‘Will My Child Be Ready for Kindergarten’ workshop will take place at the Giving Nest Preschool & Kindergarten of North Plainfield, 300 Clinton Avenue, on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. The workshop is free, however, registration is required and spots can be secured by calling the school at (908) 754-2060.

Additionally, the Giving Nest Preschool and Kindergarten in North Plainfield is currently accepting registration for the 2017-18 school year.

Pre-registration for current families will be held from Jan. 10 through Jan. 18; during this time, selection of classes/days/times for the upcoming school year may be made. In-house registration will run from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27. To secure a spot, families must officially sign up and pay one month’s tuition along with a $50 registration fee. Registration for those families who have sent in applications for September 2017 will begin Jan. 30.
