NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The 27th Annual Paul Robeson Youth Achievement Awards Program was held at Raritan Valley Community College on April 4 and among this year’s recipients were North Plainfield Middle School students Ashley Dawsey and Ka’Chane Russell.

The program is named in honor of the late humanitarian and scholar. Each year the Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Social Justice, founded by Evelyn Field, selects deserving middle school students within Somerset County that exemplify the legacy of Robeson. This year’s featured keynote speaker was Dr. Gloria Boseman of New Jersey City University.

Nominations are presented by faculty members of select middle schools with Ashley Dawsey and Ka’Chane Russell recognized for their achievements and leadership in scholarship, arts, athletics and community service. According to school leaders, these two young women represent the best and the brightest of our nation. This award captures the essence of who they are and the legacy they will leave behind as they transition to high school.
