NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Want to join Canuck Insights? Canuck Insights is a professional development program in North Plainfield to build up alumni relations, host speakers of professionals with diverse career backgrounds, and conduct outreach for internships with local businesses.

The goals are to give students exposure to different fields, take initiative, and prepare for college or for areas that interest them most.

Canuck Insights helps students align their passions to take action. They are looking to host more speakers, continue to build a strong alumni network, collaborate with local business, organizations, and professionals to connect students to professionals in the legal, medical, technology, artificial intelligence, politics, public service, sports fields and more. And to teach students to take initiative by leveraging resources from mentors.

The program was founded by Kerin Sajjad, NPHS Alumni 13’ alongside North Plainfield High School’s Director of School Counseling, Jackie Fields and Transitions Coordinator, Dr. Davis.

Sajjad went to Rutgers Business School and majored in Finance and Political Science, worked at J.P. Morgan & Chase, Johnson & Johnson and has public service experience at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission resolving discrimination cases. Currently, she’s working at IDT as a Financial Analyst and does legal work for Evisort, an early stage start-up at Harvard Innovation Labs applying artificial intelligence to contracts.

“I hope to continue leveraging community and young people, who like myself don’t have much guidance or mentorship,” Sajjad said. “When I entered college I didn’t have clear sense as to what I wanted to do, but taking initiative and exposing myself to different fields, asking for feedback, seeking mentors, leveraging every possible resource on campus, and taking constructive criticism has allowed me to harness my skill set and solidified my passions. I hope this program will allow young people to see a world beyond their environment by hearing from Alumni or interning in a professional setting.”

Past speakers include:

▪Jihad Womack, who went to Yalefrom NPHS

▪ Khawar Malik, Rutgers Engineering School & Real Estate

▪ Evita Sylvester: shared her journey from NPHS. She has disability and went to Raritan Valley Community College, transferred to Rutgers graduating Summa Cum Laude, and is now at Cornell Law School studying public interest law.
