NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The North Plainfield Youth Sports Association’s (NPYSA) 11th Annual NPYSA Ralph Cammarota Memorial Golf Outing will take place on Wednesday, June 28 at the Royce Brook Country Club in Hillsborough Township.

Hosted by the NPYSA, the golf outing benefits the youth organization, which serves as a booster group for North Plainfield’s travel baseball, travel softball and travel boys/girls basketball teams.

The money raised from the event, according to NPYSA Senior Vice President and Golf Outing Director Joe Pisaniello, helps offset league entry fees, uniforms, equipment, officiating, tournaments entry fees and a recognition dinner for each team. Additionally, over the past few years, funding has also gone toward running baseball and softball clinics that take place in the gyms of North Plainfield schools during the winter months and appear to be very successful.

“Through these clinics students learn and improve upon their skills in an effort to be more competitive when representing our town in the travel leagues,” Pisaniello said.  It also prepares them for playing at the high school level.

NPYSA has hosted the annual golf outing for approximately 30 years. Formerly known as the North Plainfield Youth Sports Golf Outing, the name was changed in 2006 to honor and remember the late Ralph Cammarota, a longtime resident and dedicated volunteer who passed away suddenly in 2005.

“Ralph was very involved with youth sports and was an extremely dedicated volunteer. He did so much for the community and renaming the golf outing after him was just a small way for us to pay him back for all his years of dedication and volunteerism,” said North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano, Jr., a member of NPYSA.

“Ralph gave of himself endlessly and was always willing to assist however and whenever necessary for the kids of Youth Sports,” added Pisaniello, a 32-year resident of North Plainfield who worked alongside Cammarota within NPYSA as a softball coach. “He touched everyone with his humbled personality and willingness to give of himself. It was only fitting that we did something to remember him. He was a special man.”

Although Cammarota was not the best golfer, the late community youth sports advocate supported the outing each year nonetheless. “He loved the golf outing even though he was probably the worst golfer we ever had – Ralph usually had the highest score and won that award many times – but he had fun and participated every year in support of the association,” said Dennis Passe, director of the North Plainfield Recreation Department and president of NPYSA.

“Ralph was probably one of the best volunteers we have had in the organization. Not only did he work five days a week at his regular full time job, he also assisted us with other fundraising activities on Saturdays and Sundays without having a child in the program. He was such a great volunteer and a great person,” Passe added.

The cost of this year’s outing remains at $150 per person/$600 per foursome which includes 18 holes of golf in a four-person scramble format with cart as well as a continental breakfast and an Italian buffet lunch in the Royce Brook Country Club Pavilion; there will be a cash and carry beverage cart on the course for the entire round and a cash bar during lunch. The event will also include awards as well as a 50/50 drawing and prizes. Registration and breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. followed by an 8:30 a.m. shot gun start. Hole sponsorships are also available for $75.

“It a great day for a great cause. Not only does the outing enable us to raise money for youth sports while also providing NPYSA a great way to honor and remember longtime North Plainfield resident Ralph Cammarota and all the hard work he put into this organization,” said Pisaniello.

The entry commitment date for the 11th Annual Ralph Cammarota Memorial Golf Outing is June 21. Royce Brook Country Club is located at 201 Hamilton Road, Hillsborough Township. For additional information, contact Joe Pisaniello, tournament director, at (908) 668-5231 or
