NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Borough of North Plainfield’s 6th Annual Summer Car Cruise, sponsored by the Mayor’s Special Events Committee and hosted by the Car Nutz Car Club, will take place Tuesday, July 19. The family-oriented event will run along Somerset Street from Park Place to Race Street from 6 to 9 p.m. and feature dozens of classic cars as well as street rods and also feature music and food for purchase.

“This is a great night for not just car enthusiasts but for all the people of our town and something the borough looks forward to holding each year,” said North Plainfield Councilman Frank ‘Skip’ Stabile, chair of the event and a member of the Car Nutz Car Club.

Admission to the Car Cruise is free to attendees and participants; there is no entry fee and one does not have to be a resident or member of a car club to participate. Also, the event is open to antique and classic vehicles of any class and trophies will be awarded for ‘People’s Choice,’ ‘Car Nutz President’s Choice’ and ‘Mayor’s Choice.’

“We are hoping this year’s show will be bigger and better,” said Dan Battista, president of the Car Nutz Car Club. “Each year, the Mayor’s Special Event Committee welcomes us and we are looking forward to once again bringing the residents of the town a walk to car cruise.”

During the Car Cruise, attendees strolling along Somerset Street will be able see the vehicles up-close-and-personal, ask the owners questions, and take photographs of or with the cars. In addition to privately owned classic and antique vehicles and street rods, the North Plainfield Police Department’s 1965 Harley Davidson Motor Tricycle will also be on display.

“Some of these cars are works of art and so rare now and the Car Cruise offers residents the opportunity to see many of them in one setting,” said Stabile, adding that what makes the event even more special is that many of the owners are North Plainfield residents themselves. “This really is a hometown show.”

North Plainfield’s 6th Annual Summer Car Cruise will also feature oldies music from DJ Robert Longo and food for purchase –including Italian ices, fresh squeezed lemonade, hot dogs, sausage & peppers, burgers, soda, and water – from North Plainfield business owner Angel Aviles. New this year, Tom Gesior of the Garwood-based T.G. & Sons Ice Cream will be on site selling items out of their restored classic 1966 Good Humor Truck.

“This is the perfect fit for an event like this,” said Stabile, adding, “The Car Cruise is a great event for our community. Residents of our borough can enjoy a warm summer night, check out some really cool cars, have some food and listen to music.”

North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano, Jr. added, “This is a great, laid back community event. Residents are encouraged to come down, meet their neighbors and socialize while checking out some really nice classic and antique vehicles.”

Vehicle registration for the Borough of North Plainfield’s 6th Annual Summer Car Cruise will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 19 on Somerset Street in front of Borough Hall.
