NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Borough of North Plainfield's first family-friendly Community Day will be held Saturday, July 16. Sponsored by the Mayor’s Special Events Committee, the fun-filled event will take place on the grounds of West End Elementary School.

"This year, the borough is holding a special Community Day that will offer something for everyone,” said North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano Jr. “Our goal is to offer a fun-filled day that provides families, friends, and neighbors the opportunity to come out and enjoy this great community we call home.”

Community Day is set to begin at 5 p.m. and will include free activities for children, including three bounce houses, face painting, and a trackless fire truck. There will be live entertainment from the Barbara Harley Band from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Jersey Shades from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m.

Community Day will also include food and drinks for purchase from such local businesses as Junkyard Dog and Tony Sausage, among others. Representatives from the borough will also be selling glow-in-the-dark necklaces and tickets for 50/50 raffle, with proceeds helping to offset the cost of the event; additionally, donations will be accepted to help offset costs of Mayor’s Specials Events Committee-sponsored events held throughout the year.

From 5 to 7 p.m. local businesses and organization will also be on hand showcasing their goods and services, including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, churches and insurance companies along with Abingdon Care & Rehabilitation Center of Green Brook and TAPinto North Plainfield, among others.

Community Day will conclude with the highly anticipated fireworks show, presented by Garden State Fireworks, at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets and enjoy a fun night close to home.

“Community Day is designed to be a great event and we are encouraging all residents to come out, relax and enjoy fun and free evening with their children, friends, family and neighbors,” said Joe Irovando, event chair.

“Rather than heading down the shore and dealing with tolls and traffic, why not avoid the headaches and enjoy a night out right in your backyard,” added Irovando. “Community Day promises to be a fun night and best of all, it’s close to home and free. At the end of the night, you can be home in 10 minutes.”
