NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The Optimist of North Plainfield honored athletes from the 15 varsity sports at North Plainfield High School at its annual Optimist Athlete Awards Dinner at the International Club on Somerset Street on June 5.

Surrounded by family, friends and coaches, the 15 student athletes listened to guest speaker Martha Barrett, former North Plainfield teacher and coach.  Barrett's message was that they were selected by their coaches because their optimism was always present and she reminded them to continue being optimistic, as life presents them challenges. Optimist International's motto is "Friend of Youth" and the organization also uses the branding statement "Bringing Out the Best in Youth, in our Communities, and in Ourselves."
