RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Horses, Velvet, Precious and Annie donned costumes with the help of some young volunteers as part of a fundraising event for Team Velvet, which provides non-mounted horse therapy for children who have experienced trauma and loss,

The event was held Oct. 22, at Journey's End Farm.

The equine costume show included, a one-eyed, one-horned (not-so) giant purple people eater, the Flinstones, Pegasus, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and the horses danced tot he Monster Mash. Velvet performed tricks such as pushing a ball into a soccer net, playing horns and a piano.

There was also a silent auction and raffle. Charlie Harrison of WDVR’s Radio Ranch show as master of ceremonies. Artist Patty Paige displyed her work.

Non-mounted equine facilitated mental health is a form of interactive psychotherapy designed to increase the resiliency of children in overcoming trauma or adjustment difficulties. It may involve a psychologist, child, parent, and/or horse handler at any given time working with a therapy horse to facilitate the child’s clinical learning.

Team Velvet hopes to someday to permanently own a farm they can operate from.

BRANT BEACH - The Long Beach Island Shuttle, an extremely popular service for visitors and residents of Long Beach Island, will have a fee for the first time beginning Memorial Day weekend.
