Police Identify Homicide Victim in Monday's Incident on Washington Valley Road as Defendant's Mother

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The homicide victim in Monday's stabbing in a home on Washington Valley Road in Martinsville has been identified as Helen Litwornia, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson.

Robertson said the 61-year-old victim was the mother of defendant Michael Litwornia.

According to Robertson, an autopsy was performed by the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office, and the cause of death was found to be sharp force trauma to the neck, classified as a homicide.

The investigation is continuing.

Litwornia, 27, of Martinsville, was charged with first-degree homicide in his mother's death, as well as second degree aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing of his father.

The incident took place Monday evening inside the Litwornia home on Washington Valley Road. Following a standoff with Michael Litwornia, he was taken into custody by the Somerset County SWAT team.

At this time, he is at an area hospital under police guard for self-inflicted wounds, and will be lodged at the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing once he is released.
