WATCHUNG, NJ – New Jersey American Water Officials have told TAP into North Plainfield/Green Brook they believe the water main break on Route 22 in Watchung should be repaired before this evening's rush hour.
“The main is a 16-inch concrete main, and we anticipated having the repairs completed by rush hour,” said Richard G. Barnes, External Affairs Manager from New Jersey American Water. “This water main break has not affected the residential areas, only the businesses along the Route 22 corridor.”
The Watchung Police Department issued a Nixle Alert at 5:01a.m. this morning notifying morning commuters of the water main break. The water main break occurred on US 22 west in the area of Terrill Road in Watchung. The right and center lanes have been closed for repairs since this morning. The area is still being excavated and businesses in the area do not have water.
According to Barnes the water main repairs should be completed by rush hour today. TAP into North Plainfield/Green Brook will provide any changes or news updates on the water main as they are made available.
