NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Recreation softball and baseball teams, along with siblings and parents, gathered at the Vermeule Center on Wednesday to award trophies to winning teams and celebrate the end of another successful season.
“I want to thank all the players and coaches who worked so hard this year,” said Recreation Director Dennis Passe. “It was a great season.”
The town provided traditional picnic fare with hot dogs, chips and juice boxes for everyone in attendance. Uniforms that had survived the season of diving in the infield dirt and rolling in the outfield grass fell victim to ketchup and mustard stains as kids at and yelled and chased each other around the grass.
Councilman Larry LaRond and Mayor Michael Giordano took shifts at the barbecue, along with resident Joe Pisaniello and others.
Players in coach pitch and tee-ball all received medals, which they proudly wore as they played on the Vermeule playground after the ceremonies were over. Kids in the upper leagues were presented with both regular season and tournament trophies, and teams that did not finish in first settled for the food and fun.
