SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – A strong winter storm is forecast to over spread the area late tonight into tomorrow. The storm is expected to dump nearly a foot of snow in Somerset County. Watchung Hills, Green Brook, and North Plainfield schools are all closed. Raritan Valley Community College is also closed tomorrow.

North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano sent out an alert earlier today warning residents of the impending storm. “Please be assured that our public works department will be out in force doing their part to open our streets in a timely manner and our police/fire/ems services will remain on full time duty,” said Giordano. “For public safety purposes, we ask that all residents remove their vehicles from roadways during and immediately following the storm.”

According to Giordano, residents should not shovel snow into public roadways and should not bury fire hydrants. Residents are urged to report downed wires or power outages to the non-emergency number for the North Plainfield Police Department (908) 769-2937, or call 911 for emergencies.
