NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The planned paving of a four block section of Somerset Street set to begin today has been delayed until Monday, Oct. 13. The paving project will likely last a week.
The area being paved starts at Grandview Avenue at the southernmost point and moves toward Route 22 at Howard Street at the northernmost point. All businesses in the affected area will remain open, but on-street parking will be limited.
The area included in the paving project includes the Somerset Street intersections at Greenbrook Road and Mountain Avenue, and the area at the base of the Somerset Street overpass.
Borough officials say that there may be local detours in addition to significant delays on local roads. When the paving is close to the Somerset Street overpass delays could impact traffic on Route 22, as well.
