Somerville: Memorial to Honor Legacy of "Ministerman" John Graf

Somerset Treatment Services hopes to raise $2,000 for a memoriam to its former president, John Graf, Jr.

SOMERVILLE. NJ - John Graf, Jr. was known for his ministry as much as his philanthropy and efforts to support good causes throughout Somerset County, including Somerset Treatment Services.

He worked with STS for over 20 years, helping to forge advocacy and support programs for those challenged by drug abuse and HIV issues.

Graf died March 6, 2016. He was 57.

STS is hoping to raise $2,000 to honor Graf's legacy and install a bench with a memorial plaque within the Somerset County Park system.

"The symbol will honor the tremendous contributions that John made to serve his beloved Somerset County community," said Father Ron Pollock, pastor of Reformed Church and president of Somerset Treatment Services.

The "Ministerman" presided at hundreds of weddings, funerals and other occasions.

Graf had served as president of the STS board. He was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Somerset County Business Partnership in 2002 and as the SCBP Business Volunteer of the Year in 1999.

He served in the administration of Gov. Christie Whitman, served on the Raritan Valley Community College Board of Trustees from 2009-2013 and was the CED of the Somerset County United Way.

"Should we exceed that goal, those funds would support the work of the agency he served for over two decades providing SA disorder and HIV care to our county's neediest clientele," said Barbara Schlicting, executive director of STS.
