NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The local teachers' union is holding a rally from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Board of Education building on the corner of Mountain and Watchung avenues to protest the stalled negotiations of a contract. Teachers from each of the borough's schools will wear red to rally support from the community.

”The North Plainfield Education Association’s hope is that mediation will facilitate a fair settlement," said North Plainfield Education Association (NPEA) co-president Jackie Slattery. "A reasonable settlement is more than justified by our members’ hard work and dedication to their students."

The union and the schools have been in negotiations for a new contract since last spring, but no real progress has been made and a mediator has been assigned.

The NPEA has been distributing red and blue yard signs to supporters in the community that read, "Settle the Contract" that are visible on most streets.
