FORT MEYERS, FL - Team NJ took home the gold this past weekend at the 2015 Senior National competition in Florida.  The team  consisted of six outstanding New Jersey gymnasts including: Nicole Sottiriou from South Plainfield, Jenna Rizkalla from Westfield, Anne Meringolo from Watchung, Jessica Villorosi from Hunterdon Central, Hannah Goldring from Westfield and Maggie Mcgrorry from Ocean twp.

Nicole Sottiriou of South Plainfield took home the all-around title as well as the beam title and finished second on the vault and 6th on bars.  Jenna Rizkalla took home the vault title, finished 2nd in the all-around as well as a 6th place bar finish. Annie Meringolo qualified for three events however due to an injury she could only compete on bars where she finished in 2nd place, Jessica Villorosi finished 7th overall with a 6th place vault finish and 13th on floor. Hannah Goldring finished 27th all around with an 8th place floor finish while Maggie Mcgrorry finished 39th with a 6th place floor finish and a 11th place beam finish.

All of these individual accomplishments were outstanding, but according to the coaches, the true moment was waiting for the final team tally between Massachusetts and New Jersey. The winning score was a razor thin .525 tenths of a margin.

“They had worked so hard and earned that title, but watching these girls compete against one another all season long and then coming together to be a powerhouse team was a truly special moment to be a part of,” said Coach Meredith Garofalo.  “When they called Team New Jersey the girls just went nuts.”

Team New Jersey was coached by lead coach Cindy Wagner coach of Somerville along with coaches Colleen Sutphen of Holmdel, Brianna Ferdinandi of A.L Johnson and Meredith Garofalo of South Plainfield.

The Coaching staff had one last comment for their championship girls, “congratulations Team NJ you all did a great job.”
