GREEN BROOK, NJ – At the Feb. 1 Green Brook Township Committee meeting, Tim Boccio received a proclamation from Mayor Nancy Stoll in recognition of achieving Eagle Scout status.

For his Eagle Scout project, Tim, a member of Green Brook Boy Scout Troop #129 and son of Committeeman Patrick Boccio, focused on providing a new paver patio at the township’s Central Bark Dog Park located at 275 Greenbrook Road, next to the Green Brook Regional Center.

To obtain the rank of Eagle Scout - the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve - one must plan, develop, fundraiser and provide leadership to others in a service project to any religious institution, school, or community.

In planning his project, Tim spoke with Township Administrator Kelly Cupit, met with Department of Public Works Supervisor Dave Paltjon and put together an Eagle Scout Proposal that had to be approved by both the Board of Eagle Scout Review and the Green Brook Township Committee.

“When I was looking for a project, I first looked for a project in Green Brook,” Tim said. “I spoke to Mr. Paltjon and he suggested several potential projects. I felt that the dog park patio would be appreciated and well used.”

Once the project was approved, Tim worked to secured monetary donations from local businesses. In pitching the project, Tim wrote a letter, which he personally delivered to the businesses along Route 22 in Green Brook, and spoke with managers, explaining the project he wished to take on. He raised a total of $1,400 and also received donated and discounted materials.

Construction and installation on the paver patio began in the beginning of October. Fellow Troop #129 members along with parents and troop leaders assisted Tim in the project, which was completed at the end of November.

“I am very grateful to all of the people and businesses who helped me complete the project,” said Tim. “Without their help I couldn’t have done it.”

Troop #129 is comprised of 26 boys ages 11 to 18 hailing from Green Brook, North Plainfield and Piscataway. The troop is sponsored by the Green Brook PTO and is led by Scoutmaster Richard Couch and Assistant Scoutmasters Patrick Boccio, Jack McCullen and Dennis Costello.
