ELIZABETH, NJ – An alleged intoxicated tractor-trailer driver led Elizabeth and Union County police on a wild ride this morning, leaving at least one person dead and one critical, before being shot by police, according to Breaking News Network. A report of a second fatality has not been confirmed as yet.
The incident began at approximately 2 a.m. at East Jersey and Third Street and ended at Parker and North Broad, when the unidentified driver was shot. The tractor-trailer then crashed into a building at 828 Newark Avenue, and the driver was entrapped and had to be extricated. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark in critical condition, as reported by Breaking News Network. According to preliminary reports, the driver intentionally crashed into approximately 50 vehicles in a 20-block area.
The building’s owner, Joseph Jardim, found out about the damage while he was at his other business. “I was told to check out my building,” he said. Damages? “I don’t know yet, but is going to be expensive.” He said the tractor-trailer hit a car coming out of the Stop and Shop across the street, then careened across Newark Avenue to hit the section of the building housing J. Leather Inc.
