NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - You wouldn't know from the steady stream of students and parents getting breakfast at New Sal's Deli this morning that vandals had smashed the glass in a door a few hours earlier, setting off the alarms and bringing a quick police response. Fortunately, the burglars didn't have a lot of time and were only able to get some cigarettes and cash.

"The alarm was going off so they were maybe rushing it," said Mike, who was working the counter this morning. "It was about three in the morning, but they didn't get much."

The deli covered the door with black hefty bags to keep the weather out, and plan to replace the door with new glass by later this afternoon. They were open and selling snacks and breakfast to high school students the same as any other morning.
