WARREN, NJ - Andrew Morrison, a Watchung Hills senior, received a plaque and a proclamation from the Warren Township Committee at its meeting on Thursday for his accomplishments while a student at Watchung Hills.
Morrison plays the alto sax and has been a member of the Watchung Hills marching band for four years, served as its drum major, was selected to the Macy's All American Marching Band, marching in the Thanksgiving Day parade, and was the only New Jersey representative selected for the National Band of America Honor Band, which performed at the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena CA.
Morrison also is a founding member and now officer in the Tri-M Music Honor Society at Watchung Hills.
Committeemen George Lazo explained how he was "ignorant" to the band's performances at the high school until he met Andrew's father Robert ( Bob) Morrison while both were working on the town's utility commission.
Lazo said Bob encouraged him to go to see some of the performances and when he did was "very, very impressed."
Andrew Morrison thanked the committee saying, " it really is an honor to be here and accept this award."
