WARREN, NJ - The Watchung Hills Board of Education appointed Jordana Raban of Millington to serve the remaining 15 months of former Long Hill board member Lisa DiMizio’s term, at the last meeting of the board on Tuesday.

DiMizio resigned effective Aug. 1, citing a new job with a longer commute and time commitments as the reason, after serving the students of Long Hill and Watchung Hills for the past 11 years.

Raban is the current Vice President of the Long Hill Board of Education but said in her remarks that since four candidates are running for three seats on the board in the next election in Long Hill, the time was right for her to move to the high school board.  ( See video here

She also touched on one of the tenets of the strategic plan, social and emotional wellness.

“We want to perform well, we want our students to rank high, but it’s also about raising healthy kids, balanced kids,” she said.

Raban has experience with Watchung Hills as a parent. One son is a 2019 WHRHS graduate and now a freshman at Purdue, and the other is a sophomore at Watchung Hills.

Four Long Hill candidates applied for the position on the Watchung Hills Board of Education. Julie Mazur, and Samuel Zacharisen also interviewed for the position at Tuesday’s meeting. The fourth candidate, Omkar Govindjaran, was not present.

”The Watchung Hills Regional High School Board of Education was very happy that four well qualified people stepped forward to apply for the position,” said Board President Peter Fallon in an email to TAPinto.  “It was difficult to decide among the candidates who appeared before us because we believe that each of them could have been excellent members of our Board of Education.  We are glad that Jordana Raban, with the experience she has already had on the Long Hill Township K to 8 Board of Education, will be joining us.”
