WATCHUNG, NJ – Watchung Hills Regional High Schools’ (WHRHS) Sam Shapiro scored two goals including the game winner with 8:11 left in the second period to lift the Watchung Hills Warriors to a 4-1 victory over Toms River North. The victory sends the Warriors into the second round of the NJSIAA Public A Tournament against Randolph.
Toms River North’s Colton Shan scored at the 12:23 mark of the first period to put Toms River up 1-0.
WHRHS’ Josh LoGiudice knotted the game 1-1 at the 13:01 mark of second period. Zach Lindewirth assisted on the LoGiudice goal. Shapiro scored what turned out to be the game winner five minutes later on a goal assisted by Warrior teammate Brian Dempsey.
Shapiro scored his second goal of the game at the 12:59 mark of the third period. Shapiro’s goal put the Warriors up 3-1. Lindewirth picked up his second assist of the game on the Shapiro goal. Harrison Napell scored an empty netter with :24 left in the game to close out the scoring for the Warriors.
WHRHS’ Ryan McHugh had 21 saves between the pipes to get the win for the Warriors while Toms River North’s Julian Coto turned away 32 shots in the loss for Toms River North.
