Junior Peewees move to 3-0 with win over Woodbridge

The Watchung Hills Wolverines JPW team maintained their undefeated record with a convincing win over the Woodbridge Golden Saints, 22-0.   All of the Wolverines points came in the first half and a tough defensive posture throughout sealed the shutout.

First half touchdowns were notched by Brock Dandrige and Mason Geis who led the ground attack with Geis converting a 46-yard dash on the first play of the second drive.  Kicker Byron McCann booted both extra points through the uprights adding 4 points to the Wolverines tally.  Another big contributor to the offensive production was Gerald Tobia, who bulldozed up the middle on 2 strong runs.  Ethan Byrd, Ryan Rizk and Colin Kolakowski also carried the ball for the Wolverines and were additive to the “ground and pound” effort.  Under centers Brayden Kelly and Lucas Garcia, quarterbacks Jadon Prinzivalli and Mason Kelly led the offensive charge with Prinzivalli completing the Wolverines only passing attempt - a nice completion to Kyle Checchio.

Defensively the Wolverines were dominant with Michael Mancino, Nicky Valenti, Checchio, Geis and Kolakowski each registering at least 2 tackles while Jared O’Neill shut down the outside from his corner position.  Brayden Kelly contributed with a tackle for a 10-yard loss and also picked off the Golden Saints, returning the interception for a touchdown.  Prinzivalli added another pick as well.  Importantly, the line delivered tremendous penetration throughout the day behind key players Matthew Quinn, Isaac Seubert, Jake Arakelian and Jackson Acosta.  Acosta also delivered a sack to help set the tone.

The WHPW Pee Wee Team successfully defeated the Bridgewater Panthers with a 21 - 6  victory, in the third week of the season.

In the first quarter the Wolverines Offense successfully moved the ball down the field with Jack Clintock receiving a pass from Scott Drews followed by a 40 yard run, to successfully score the first points of the game.   The extra point kick was diverted to Jack Clintock who passed to Michah Leibowitz, who scored the extra point, to end the first quarter 7-0.  Strong running on the day from Christian Black helped move the ball up and down the field and keep the Bridgewater defense on the field.

The second quarter was highlighted by Ryan Johnson's onside fumble recovery, which set up David Dubas' touchdown run.  Braden Fenton kicked the extra point which closed out the second quarter with a score of 15 -0

Wolverines defense in the third quarter was highlighted by Rocco Salerno, Brennan Fahs and Tommy Zotolo with outstanding tackles, which kept the Bridgewater Panthers scoreless in the third quarter. Offensively, the Wolverines were able to score an additional touchdown thanks to Ryan Johnson's interception to set up Quadir Anderson's touchdown.  That brought the score to 21- 0.

The fourth quarter was highlighted by the Bridgewater Panthers ability to move the ball against the Wolverines defense, to score their only touchdown of the game.  The game ended on a high note for the Wolverines when Scotty Drews intercepted a pass which ended the game with  a final score of 21 - 6.

The Wolverines

Watchung Hills Junior Pee Wee Gold vs Union Rams 9.16.18

A hot sunny day was the perfect weather for another strong performance by the JPW Wolverines Gold Team. Watchung Hills Junior Pee Wee Wolverines hosted the Union Rams on Sunday and came away with a win at home by a score of 20 - 7.  The offense controlled the ball with a committee of running backs that were led by Quadir Williams and Jake Zotollo. Quadir averaged 10 + yards per carry putting the Wolverines in scoring position on two separate drives. The Wolverines struck first in the 1st Qtr after Matiss Kalnins recovered a fumble on the Union 30. Austin Kolakowski ran the ball into the end zone from 17 yards out a few plays later, and Liam Morris drove in the extra point. The Rams offense gave the Wolverines a scare with a long run to the outside on the ensuing drive but Jake Zotollo was able to chase down the ball carrier and stop them from getting into the end zone. Shortly after, Jake had another great defensive play with an interception stopping the Rams again.  But late in the 2ndquarter the Rams got into the end zone to tie the game with an impressive 20 yard TD pass with extra point to tie the game at 7 all by the half.

The second half the Wolverines Offense took control and regained the lead after QB Aidan Grochowski took a QB keeper 4 yards in for a TD and Austin K added the extra Point.  Quadir Williams put the Wolverines in scoring position with some hard running off tackle and up the middle.  Liam Morris took advantage of the set up insise by sweeping to the left 20 yards for the third Wolverines TD.  The extra point fell short. The Wolverines Defense ended the day with three takeaways with Michael Testa recording a fumble recovery as well. The wolverines Defense was led by Michael Carrol containing the outside as Vito Marcogliese, Christian Warnicke and others kept putting pressure on the QB. The Rams tried to get into the end zone late in the 4th quarter on another deep pass but that attempt was stopped by the hustle of Danny Attanasio chasing the receiver down the sideline to end the game with a final score of 20 – 7.
