WATCHUNG, NJ - The Borough is ready! All Emergency Service Teams - the Police, Fire, Rescue Squad and CERT Teams are prepared and will be on call. The Watchung Department of Public Works is prepared for the forecasted winter storm event. Our plows and salt spreaders are ready to go! This storm may bring significant snow totals and high winds late Friday into the weekend.
Residents are encouraged to put together a “disaster kit” containing necessities in case of a long-term loss of electricity and other utilities, or if they have to leave their homes for a few days
Kits should include a supply of bottled water, non-perishable food, a manual can opener, a fire extinguisher, supply of prescription medicines, first-aid kit, bedding, sanitary needs, a standard AM/FM radio, flashlights and extra batteries, and any items required for infants, people with disabilities and pets.
Residents also should get cash and gasoline for their vehicles before the storm,
since power outages may disrupt ATMs and gas pumps.
For information about the proper use of generators, preventing carbon monoxide poisoning and more go to the Borough’s webpage at www.watchungnj.gov, on the home page.
Also on the Borough’s webpage, click the “Utility” tab and you will find contact information for PSE&G and JCP&L, in case of power outages, and remember,
never touch a downed wire!
Visit the Public Safety, Emergency Management section of the website for other valuable information. Be sure you are signed up for “Nixle” alerts!
Be sure to remove any loose items from your homes and yards that could be
blown around and cause damage to people and property, and please, if there is an emergency, please check on any elderly neighbors or people that you may know
that may be in need of assistance.
Stay safe! Be smart and be prepared!
