NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The West End School Parent Teacher Association is holding its annual basket auction this Saturday, March 22, starting at 6 p.m. The auction is the primary fundraiser for the PTA, and is the primary source of funding for many student activities.
“We previously held several small fundraisers throughout the year,” said Michelle Coslit, the event’s chair. “But we found it was better to have one main fundraiser that pays for cultural arts programs and educational experiences for our students.”
Last year’s PTA basket auction funded a “Days of Knights” assembly with to help the kids learn about Chivalry and Character, and also a Mad Science program that turns often boring lessons into excitement and fun. Other programs include support for the Smile Train that helps kids with cleft palate receive surgery, author visits and more.
Admission is $10, and participants receive a sheet of 25 “white tickets” for use with baskets valued under $75. A sheet of pink tickets are available for $15 for baskets worth $76 to $199, and a sheet of blue tickets are for baskets $$200 to $449. Individual gold tickets can be purchased for $6 each and are for baskets valued at more than $450. In addition there will be a 50/50 raffle that last year had a prize above $600.
Prizes include Wicked Tickets on Broadway, passes to Disney, $1000 in orthodontia from Warren Hills Orthodontists, a night in a family suite at Great Wolf Lodge, two nights in a villa at Hershey Suites from Blue Green Vacations, and a Sony PS4 that is sure to be a hit with the students.
The event is at West End School, 447 Greenbrook Road in North Plainfield. The first tickets will be drawn at 8:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome, and it is not necessary to have a student attending West End School to attend.
