BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge boys soccer team advanced in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Watchung Hills on Saturday.

“Our season officially comes to a close as we lose 1-0 in double OT to Ridge,” WHRHS boys soccer tweeted. “Thank you to the fans and seniors for a great season. #Cruz”

The Red Devils, seeded eighth, broke through in the second overtime when senior Michael Henderson converted a feed from junior Chris Profaca into the golden goal.

The victory was attributable in large part to the performance of Ridge goalie Robbie Rutkowski. Recently named the Skyland Conference goalie of the week, Rutkowski stopped all 16 shots he faced from the ninth-seeded Warriors, who attempted twice as many shots on goal as Ridge.

The victory capped a successful week for Ridge, which defeated Linden, 2-0, in a regular season game Thursday night. Profaca and Daniel Ruiz scored goals and Konstantine Kyros had an assist for the Red Devils. Rutkowski made 20 saves in that game.
