WARREN, NJ - Junior Julia Cunningham broke the Watchung Hills career scoring record, with 1235 points, just before half time in Wednesday's NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Quarterfinal against Bridgewater-Raritan.

With her 12th point tonight, Julia Cunningham became the all-time leading scorer in Watchung Hills basketball history, surpassing 2007 graduate Megan Kopecki's 1234 career points.

Cunningham led the Warriors with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Alexa Santo pitched in 21 points and 8 rebounds as Watchung Hills wrapped up their season with a 21-5 record after falling to the Panthers, 74-62.

Watchung Hills took a 36-34 lead into the half but the Panthers came out on a 23-11 third quarter tear to take the lead.

 

Senior Olivia Ortelli led six Panthers players in double figures with 14 points for Bridgewater-Raritan. Watchung Hills dropped one of its four season losses to the Panthers in December.

 

"I want to thank the players and coaching staff for the most memorable season," said WHRHS head coach Maurice Kirchofer. "Our players surprised everyone going from unranked before the season to a 21-5 record.  These players do everything the right way and make me so proud.  They all have a bright future, and a special farewell to my 3 classy seniors Emma Zucker, Amy Hackett and Rachel Sabnani.

The Lady Warriors truly Took our team slogan RISE UP to heart and Rose to every occasion.  Thanks for all who supported us this year!"

Update: Police Break Up Fight Involving 40-50 People at Bridgewater Commons Mall

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — No injuries have been reported in an incident that shut down Bridgewater Commons Mall Thursday evening after a fight involving a crowd of 40-50 people.

Police are still investigating unconfirmed reports of shots being fired, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.
