SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - WHRHS senior Brooke Stanicki was selected as a National Girls and Women in Sports recipient and along with the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women and Tri-County Orthopedics, the 31st annual, statewide celebration of “National Girls and Women In Sports Day” at Seton Hall University took place on Sunday, January 29.
Only one girl from each school every year is selected recognizing outstanding female athletes throughout the state.
Stanicki is captain of the Watchung Hills girls fencing warriors and plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall. "I was so honored to represent Watchung Hills high school and to be included amongst all the top women athletes in the state," Stanicki said.
"Congratulations to Brooke Stanicki for being selected as our recipient for National Girls and Women in Sports," said WHRHS Director of Athletics, Chris Van Vliet. "This is a great honor and well deserved. We are very proud of you! "
The 2017 NAGWS Honor Award Recipient is Jill Cosse Minnella, West Essex Field Hockey and Girls Lacrosse Coach. West Essex won the Field Hockey Tournament of Champions in 2016.
