WASHINGTON, NJ - The Watchung Hills softball team smacked seven runs in the ninth inning to defeat Warren Hills on Monday, 10-3.
Sophomore Sophia Cicchetti earned her third win striking out nine, and allowing just one run on three hits and two walks after coming in relief in the fourth inning.
Erin Bean and Jade Singh each singled, doubled and drove in two runs to lead the Warriors’ offense.
“We’re really happy with how our girls held their composure through a game that turned out to be much tighter than we were expecting, considering how well we’ve been playing lately,” said WHRHS assistant coach Jeff Dealaman. “We give credit to Warren Hills though it serves as a reminder that we can’t take anyone lightly and we’re going to get the other team’s best shot every game we play. When you’re a top 10 team in the state you definitely have a target on your back. We just need treat every game with the same focus and intensity. Our bats eventually woke up in the 9th inning so it was nice to see us get rolling and do what we’re capable of. This is a huge week for us so carrying that kind of offense into tomorrow against Bridgewater and Wednesday against Hillsborough will serve us well. It’s going to be nice to get back home for a few games, we’ve been on the road for our last six games.”
Watchung Hills is 7-1 and next plays Bridgewater on Tuesday.
