For Fiscal Year 2020 the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is making federal funds available through the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant program to local communities to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program. It would be in the best interest of those towns in our area who are faced with repeated flooding, even if it is not a yearly event, to at least take a look at the funding to see if they are eligible. In tough financial times like these, the municipalities could use all the outside funding they can get. The Fiscal Year 2020 FMA NOFO can be accessed at www.Grants.gov. FEMA encourages reviewing the FMA Notice of funding Opportunity before applying, as it provides detailed program information and other grant application and administration requirements. They also provide webinars that can assist the governmental unit in determining the viability of applying. They can be found at https://www.fema.gov/grants/mitigation/fy2020-nofo/webinars.
