WATCHUNG, NJ -  Watchung PBA Local 193 is excited to announce the launch of its new $2500 scholarship offering. The scholarship will be given to honor Officer Matthew J. Melchionda, a Watchung Police Officer that died in the line of duty on March 8, 2006. Watchung PBA President Sherif Zaiton stated, “We previously offered a joint scholarship with Watchung/Warren Rotary that was awarded to a recruit of the Somerset County Police Academy in memory of Matt. When the academy stopped offering the police recruit program a few years ago, that scholarship ended. Our members decided we wanted a way to give back to our local Watchung community, but to also continue to honor Matt’s legacy. As a result, Watchung PBA has launched a new scholarship this year that will be open to any high school senior that is a resident of Watchung.” Interested applicants can view the application and apply online athttp://bit.ly/watchungpba. The scholarship is open to all high school seniors that reside in Watchung and will be attending any 2 or 4 undergraduate college in the United States.
