WATCHUNG, NJ - Watchung Councilman Robert Gibbs announced at Monday's meeting that, regretfully, he is stepping down from his term one year early.

"We wish him and his family the very best and thank them for his many years of dedicated service," the Republican District Committee said in a press release Monday.

The Republican District Committee will be holding an open screening for candidates on Thursday Dec.  5 in order to find someone willing to serve the remainder of his term, according to the release.  The state statute requires the Republican Committee to present three nominees to the governing body within 15 days of the vacancy.  The government body or Council then has an additional 15 days to appoint one of the party nominees to the Council.  The Republican committee has scheduled a screening for Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7:30pm.  Anyone interested in interviewing for the position is asked to submit a resume/bio to Deb Joren at by December 2nd.   Any questions please contact Deb Joren at 908-930-7634
