NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - All North Plainfield schools will dismiss early on Thursday March 12 and Friday March 13 to allow staff members to prepare for the possibility that the NJ Department of Health recommends that the District close due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The following letter was sent to the North Plainfield learning community from Michelle Aquino, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools:
I am writing to update you on a change in our school schedule for this week. Please be assured that at this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in our district. However, as I have shared, we have been asked by the Department of Education to develop a learning plan should the Department of Health recommend we close our schools. In other words, the physical school buildings would be closed, but students would maintain learning at home.
As a result, we will have early dismissals on both Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th. This early dismissal is planned to allow staff members to prepare for the possibility that the NJ Department of Health recommends that the District close due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.
Please note, in an effort to maintain the highest levels of caution and safety, all K-5 parent-teacher conferences will be conducted through telephone. Parents will be contacted by their child’s principal with more information. Please contact your building principal with any questions about the parent-teacher conferences.
Please note that the determination to close schools due to a public-health related issue is made by the NJ Department of Health or the County Health Officer, not by the school District.
