WATCHUNG, NJ - The Watchung Board of Education accepted three resignations of board members, elected a new president and vice president of the board, and approved Summer curriculum writing at a special meeting held on Wednesday.
The board also approved board member Joseph Barbella as a board liaison to the Watchung Borough Council.
The resignations of former President Tina Kelly, Vice President Georgia Glasser-Nehls, and Human Resources Chairperson Ellyn Margulies were unanimously approved. Board member Dennis Bakos shared a “heartfelt thank you” to all three for their many years of service. The board will be interviewing candidates to replace them with one term expiring Jan. 2020 and the other two expiring Jan. 2021.
Jessica Ingrassia was unanimously elected President of the Board of Education and Dorie Harvey was unanimously elected Vice President of the Board of Education.
The following staff members were appointed as summer curriculum writers at the rate stipulated by the 2019-2020 WBEA Agreement of $121.98 per 3.5 hour session not to exceed the number of sessions listed below:
Carolyn Mills as curriculum writer for STEM K-4 for up to 10 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year;
Lisette Eche as curriculum writer for World Language K-4 for up to 10 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year;
Alexandra Barreto as curriculum writer for World Language 5-8 for up to 10 session for the 2019-2020 school year;
Susan Walsh as curriculum writer for Advance ELA 6-8 for up to 10 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year;
Maggie Kieltyka as curriculum writer for Social Studies 5-8 for up to 5 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year;
Stacey Imbimbo as curriculum writer for Instructional Support K-4 for up to 5 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year;
Cathy Mirenda as curriculum writer for Instruction Support 5-8 for up to 5 sessions for the 2019-2020 school year.
The board approved Dr. Tanner Huffman as curriculum writer for STEM/STEAM grades 5-8 for Valley View Middle School at a total cost of $1600. Huffman is a professor at The College of New Jersey and will also provide ongoing support to the teacher and the program, Interim Superintendent Stephanie Bilenker said at the meeting.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board of Education is Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at Valley View School.
